For last weekend’s celebration for N+A, we designed custom ceiling draping inspired by one of our favorite hotels in Kalamata, Greece @costanavarino

The sculptural canopy at Barbouni became the muse for a statement installation that brought softness and movement to the space.

Last weekend marked the special celebration for N+A, a moment we seized to translate a cherished memory into a tangible setting. We chose a custom ceiling draping that draws its essence from one of our most beloved hotels in Kalamata, Greece, a place where whitewashed walls meet endless azure skies. The design leans into the relaxed elegance of the Mediterranean, layering sheer linen panels that ripple gently as guests move beneath them. By weaving together soft textures and a muted color scheme of ivory and seashell tones, the installation captures the laid‑back luxury of coastal living, while still feeling fresh and intimate for a private gathering.

The sculptural canopy at Barbouni served as the principal muse, its sweeping arches and delicate filaments inspiring a series of hand‑crafted folds that mimic the gentle undulation of sea breezes. In the photograph we referenced, layers of fabric cascade in asymmetrical ribbons, catching soft diffused light that accentuates the translucence of each sheet. This visual reference guided us to select a palette of muted lavender and warm sand, echoing the pastel hues that dominate the Greek coastline at sunset. By alternating thin strips of voile with slightly heavier chiffon, we created depth without sacrificing the airy openness that defines the original installation. The resulting ceiling becomes a living backdrop, subtly shifting with each breath of movement.

Choosing the right fabrics was only the first step; we then faced the challenge of installing the draped canopy at just the right height to echo the original canopy’s proportions.
