Stepping off the train in Milan, I was greeted by the crisp aroma of fresh espresso and the soft hum of tram bells. My base for two nights was Combo Milano, a hostel that blends sleek design with practical amenities. At just sixty euros for the stay, the private room felt surprisingly spacious, and the communal lounge offered fast Wi‑Fi and plenty of power outlets, perfect for a digital nomad. Breakfast arrived each morning as a complimentary spread of pastries, fruit, and steaming cappuccino, served in a bright, minimalist space that encouraged lingering with a laptop or a sketchbook, creative.
Morning light spilled over the marble arches of Galleria Vittorio Emanuele II, where sleek glass roofs frame bustling shoppers and historic mosaics tell stories of a city that never sleeps. A short stroll brought me to the Duomo di Milano, its towering spires glittering against a cobalt sky; climbing the 250 steps rewarded me with panoramic views of rooftops awash in terracotta and distant Alpine silhouettes. The cathedral’s façade, a mosaic of white marble and pink stone, seemed to pulse with centuries of devotion, while the nearby Galleria’s high‑end boutiques offered a tempting glimpse into Milan’s luxury heart, all within easy walking distance of my hostel.
